Making and Maturing Believers

Martha's Ministry

I Peter 4:10-11 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. . .

The purpose of Martha's Ministry is to provide a meal for a church member in the event of a death in their immediate family (spouse, child).  The ladies of Martha's Ministry will prepare and serve a complete meal for the bereaved family and their guests, before the receiving of friends or before or after the burial.  The meal can be served in the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Fellowship Hall or taken to the home.

This ministry is not intended to take the place of individuals providing food for the family at other times during the bereavement period.  It is, instead, to enhance what is already being done by individual members and by Sunday School classes.

Martha's Ministry is composed of six teams who are on call for two months of the year:  Team 1 - January & July;  Team 2 - February & August;  Team 3 - March & September;  Team 4 - April & October;  Team 5 - May & November;  Team 6 - June & December.

The menu for Martha's Ministry meal is fixed.  The church provides a meat and drinks, and team members who work outside the home are assigned a specific vegetable, salad, rolls or dessert to finish out the meal.  Other team members help by setting tables, warming and serving the meal, and cleaning up.

The ladies of Martha's Ministry desire to be able to provide this service to every family who experiences the loss of a loved one.  However, it may not be possible to provide a meal during the following holidays:  New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day because volunteers may not be available at those times.  The co-chair and team captain will determine whether or not volunteers can be enlisted.  Also, a previously scheduled church wide event would preclude the use of the facilities.

All ladies of Beaver Dam Baptist Church are encouraged to be active participants in Martha's Ministry.  Everyone involved in the ministry is blessed as we reach out in love and kindness to those who are hurting.

Please call Janice in the Education Office (925-9336) to sign up to help with this ministry.

Lord, give me the sensitivity to people in their grief and pain, To weep with them and show
Your love in ways mere words cannot attain.
