“From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps find Him; though He is not far from each one of us.” Acts 17: 26-27


ESL Mission Roles and Descriptions

  • ESL Teacher – To teach English to adult internationals, refugees, and immigrants so they can function more fully in the US and to intentionally demonstrate and share the love of Jesus Christ with ESL students.

Qualifications:

1. A sense of mission or calling from God to this ministry.

2. Ability to speak, read, and write English as a native speaker.

3. Completion of a basic ESL workshop

4. Commitm ent to teach for a period of at least 1 school year.

Responsibilities:

1.Prepare for and teach an ESL class once a week when public school is in session.

2. Arrange for someone else to teach my class when I can’t be there.

3. Demonstrate and model the love of Jesus in every contact with my ESL students.

4. Regularly pray for and with my ESL students.

5. Intentionally share the gospel of Jesus Christ with my ESL students.

6. Contact students by phone, letter, personal visit, or card when they are absent more than 2 weeks in a row.

7. If possible, attend add itional training events and teacher meetings.

 

  • Encourager – Come weekly (or when able) and sit alongside an ESL student as they participate in class, assisting them as needed.  It is hard learning another language, especially English and ALL its rules! Be prepared to show patience, love and lots of humor as you encourage them along the way!  (No formal training is needed to be an encourager.)

  • Snack & Refreshment Organizer – To organize Weekly Refreshments (Simple snacks, bottle water, coffee, chips, fruit/veggies, etc.) giving ESL students an opportunity to practice English and fellowship, building relationships and sharing the love of Christ in words and actions. Snacks will be served at the closing assembly, lasting 10-15 min.

  • Snack & Refreshment Volunteer– To help set up and/or bring simple snacks to weekly meetings. Works alongside the Snack & Refreshment Organizer

  • Childcare Organizer-- To Organize volunteers to care for children who will demonstrate the love of Christ and intentionally engage the children, building a relationship through games, books and activities. (Background Check may be needed)

  • Childcare Volunteer—To care for children, demonstrating the love of Christ and intentionally engage the children, building a relationship through games, books, and activities. (Background Check may be needed) indicate your preferences of age 0-2 age 3-5 grade K-2 grade 3-5

  • Registration Volunteer Aug. 2, 2018—To hand out registration forms to ESL students, assisting them in filling out the form (It is okay to use google translate, if necessary.)

  • Opening Ceremony Volunteer--Teach song/Play game during opening group time (approx. 3-5 min.)—This is a perfect time for ESL students to practice English by chanting tunes, singing simple jingles/hymns, playing counting/ABC type games, word play games, even songs like “Head and Shoulders” and “Deep and Wide.”  Of course, we, too, will all join in on the fun—singing and playing and of course, laughing!

  • Opening Ceremony Volunteer—Share weekly verse/devotional during opening group time (approx.. 3-5 min.)—This is a time to share with the ESL students why WE are here.  We love Jesus and we do all things for His glory! His truth is everlasting and changes lives!
